In recent years, more and more cycle tourists have discovered the beauties of this city. Many of them arrive directly from Germany, following the spectacular cycle path that crosses the region. Others decide to start their cycling adventure right from Rovereto, setting off to explore the roads and trails of Trentino, with routes that begin right here.

One of the gems of Trentino is the Adige cycle path, which winds between vineyards and castles, connecting the North and South of the region for over 90 kilometers. This cycle path continues up to the Brenner Pass, offering extraordinary views along the way. Another branch of the Adige cycle path allows you to reach the picturesque Lake Garda in just 19 kilometers, crossing the beautiful biotope of Lake Loppio.

The Rifugio Damiano Chiesa is located on the summit of Monte Altissimo, at an altitude of 2060 metres, within the picturesque Baldo Natural Park. From this privileged position, there is a breathtaking 360 degree panoramic view of the northern part of Lake Garda and the surrounding peaks. The view ranges from the Dolomites to the Po Valley, as far as the Apennines and the lake itself.

To reach the refuge, it is advisable to park at Rifugio Graziani, located at an altitude of 1617 metres. From there, a path can be followed that leads to the Altissimo Refuge in about one hour and 15 minutes. This is the most accessible route both in summer and during the winter season, when vehicular transit is prohibited.

Rifugio Altissimo is open from the beginning of May to mid-October, every day, and on weekends when the weather is fine. You are advised to check the opening times on the website or on the refuge's Facebook page. Payment is only accepted in cash or by bank transfer. This place offers an extraordinary experience for those who wish to enjoy breathtaking views and spend time immersed in the beauty of nature.

The Forra del Lupo (Gorge of the Wolf) is a long Austro-Hungarian ridge trench from the First World War located on the border between Terragnolo and Folgaria. Only discovered in 2014 thanks to Albin Egger's paintings and Ludwig Fasser's war photos, this trench offers historical emotions and spectacular natural views. The route, excavated between rock walls, features loopholes, observatories and caves with views of the Pasubio and the Terragnolo valley. Its main attraction is the narrow 'Forra del Lupo', which was a frontline trench in 1915 during the First World War. It is advisable to park at the Cogola di Serrada restaurant and follow the signs for the route.

Lake Cei, located on the ridge between the Tre Cime del Bondone and Monte Stivo in Vallagarina, offers a scenic route around the lake, accessible from car parks to the north-east and south. The path along the northern and western side of the lake is easily passable and offers picturesque views, with the possibility of descending to the shore in some places. On the eastern side, you follow a paved road with low traffic and can visit the little church of Probizer and a small pond. The route forms a loop back to the starting point, offering a pleasant experience in the surrounding nature.

The Lavini di Marco are a unique palaeontological site in Europe located on the slopes of Mount Zugna, south of Rovereto. Here there are hundreds of footprints of carnivorous and herbivorous dinosaurs of different shapes and sizes, dating back to the early Jurassic period, about 200 million years ago. The Museo Civico di Rovereto has made casts and digital models of the footprints because of their scientific significance and risk of decay. Access to the site is free, but guided tours are available. It is advisable to use one's own means of transport or small private buses to reach the car park, from where one can take a hiking trail partly through the woods to the dinosaur footprints.

Monte Ghello near Rovereto is known for its natural and historical beauty. The grey limestone walls offer a spectacular panoramic view of the historic valleys and surrounding peaks. It can be easily explored via a hiking trail from Rovereto, passing through Noriglio, Zaffoni, Saltaria and Toldi. The mountain is renowned for its colourful flora, including orchids, and its agricultural landscape with vineyards and meadows. This area is also a 'site of community interest' because of its naturalistic importance.

The 'biancone' quarries on Monte Ghello have provided stone for Rovereto's buildings. In short, Monte Ghello is a versatile destination offering natural beauty, history and breathtaking landscapes.

Activities around Rovereto

The Museo delle Scienze (MUSE) in Trento is an extraordinary place to explore the world of science in an engaging and entertaining way, and is also perfect for children. This major science museum in the Trentino-Alto Adige region offers interactive and educational experiences in a variety of scientific disciplines, from biology to astronomy. Its modern architecture, designed by Renzo Piano, blends perfectly with its surroundings and offers a panoramic view of the city of Trento.

But what really makes the MUSE special for young visitors are its interactive exhibitions that engage children and invite them to explore the scientific world in a hands-on and fun way. In addition, there are also outdoor spaces such as gardens and nature trails, making the museum a stimulating experience for the whole family.

Beseno Castle, the largest manor house in Trentino, is located in Besenello, situated between Rovereto and Trento. This imposing fortified structure has an elliptical shape that stretches 250 metres in length and 50 metres in width, dominating the top of a limestone hill. The fortress was restored in the second half of the 20th century, preserving a rich and fascinating history, including significant episodes such as the Battle of Calliano. Internally, the castle houses a collection of weapons and offers the opportunity for immersive experiences through historical re-enactments. To fully enjoy all the rooms, a visit of at least two hours is recommended. The castle has seasonal opening hours and openings, so it is advisable to consult the official website for the most up-to-date details.

Thun Castle is an ancient noble residence located in Ton in the Val di Non, Trentino. Originally built in the 13th century, it was the main residence of the noble Thun family. The castle boasts impressive architecture with towers, walls, ramparts and a moat. Inside, numerous rooms preserve original furnishings and a valuable collection of family portraits, including the 16th-century Bishop's Room. After being restored by the Autonomous Province of Trento, it was opened to the public in 2010, becoming part of the Buonconsiglio Castle museum system. Castel Thun is also accessible to visitors with disabilities and offers different entrance fees, with free admission for some categories. It is an ideal place for lovers of history, art and nature.
